  3. As you view the video, complete the activity on page 6. An outline of the video is on page 7 - use the outline to take additional notes on key points that are discussed in the video. Be sure to bring your completed activity and notes with you to the Supervisory Success Workshop on August 25.

  4. Complete the quiz to reiterate the main learning points from the video.

Workshop: A Leader's Guide to Delegating

Agency Activity Due August 25, 2016

This interactive workshop will enable you to explore the knowledge and skills that lead to effective delegation. You'll have the opportunity to practice the 5 steps necessary for successful delegation and thorough communication with your delegatees. Working with your peers, you'll be able to identify, establish, and implement the types of behaviors and attitudes that contribute to the success of your delegation efforts!

Cohort Meet-Up #1: Supervisory Roles

Group Activity Due August 29, 2016

  1. Download the Supervisory Roles Activity and take it to your Cohort Meet-Up.

  2. As a group, read through pages 7, 9, and 10 together.

  3. Working individually, complete Section A of Exercise 1.1 on pages 11-12.

  4. Pair up with a partner and complete Section B of Exercie 1.1 on page 15.

  5. Working individually, devise an Action Plan to improve your role performance (Exercise 1.2 on page 17).

  6. As a group, share any best practices learned about improving role performance.

  7. Take the best practices back to your department for further discussion and implementation.

Cohort Meet-Up #2: Supervisory Development

Partner Activity Due August 31, 2016

Continue applying what you have learned about effective supervision:

  1. Download the Supervisory Development Activity and complete it prior to your Cohort Meet-Up.

  2. At the Cohort Meet-Up, pair up with a partner and take turns sharing the strengths and developmental needs you outlined in Exercise 2.1 on page 29.

  3. Then, take turns sharing your Action Plan for supervisory success (Exercise 2.2 on page 31). 

  4. Reconvene with your Cohort and share any best practices learned from the activity and/or your partner.

  5. Take your Action Plan back to your department and share it with your supervisor. Gather your supervisor's input for effective implementation.

Ops Teach-Back: A Leader's Guide to Delegating

Team-Taught Training Due September 15

This is your opportunity to disseminate and reinforce learning by sharing A Leader's Guide to Delegating with the Operations Department.

  1. Form a group of 4 to deliver the training.

  2. Download the PowerPoint Presentation HERE.

  3. Download the Leader's Guide and Participant Workbook below.

  4. Determine the format and content of the training - including using A Leader's Guide to Delegating video.

  5. Divide any training preparation tasks equally among the four trainers.

  6. Deliver the training by taking a highly interactive, fun, and hands-on approach.

  7. Gather feedback from the participants regarding what worked during the training and what could be done differently next time.

  8. Encourage participants to immediately implement the lessons they learned back on the job!

Departmental Revisit #1: My Next Steps

Departmental Activity Due September 30, 2016

  1. Download the My Next Steps Activity below and complete it prior to meeting with your departmental team.

  2. Take your completed activity with you to the departmental learning session and discuss best practices, key insights, and lessons learned.

  3. With your departmental team members, decide what to implement, when, and how.

  4. Plan for success by determining follow-up and follow-through initiatives.
